EVOLUTION!

Posted in Shopping & Fashion with tags on June 17, 2008 by citygirlmemoir

Sunday I went to the local Art Institute of Portland’s scholarship fundraiser Fashion Show: Evolution. It was interesting and a lot better than what I’ve seen of Portland Fashion shows, thus far. Then again, Evolution had the sponsorships that meant more money to play with to throw an elaborate event.
As soon as I look over the pictures I will be covering each collection, each day, on City Girl Today. Stay tune!

and

Ciao for now!

Sex and The City – Part 2

Posted in Shopping & Fashion with tags , , on June 3, 2008 by citygirlmemoir

I’m a little late in this post; however I did have the chance to see “Sex and The City”. It was everything that a “Sex and The City” fan had ever hoped! The wedding dresses! The shoes (especially the Christian Dior sandals Carrie donned on – I think I want those, too!)! And some crazy ensembles styled by Patricia Field! Some were really cute and some were okay.

The story begins three years later from where it left off. See movie preview here. Many things happen in the movie. The story goes through many ups and downs between the women. However, most importantly, we learn Mr. Big’s real and full name after six years of mystery: John James Preston. I know, right? I think I preferred him as Mr. Big… Anyways! I enjoyed the movie and, even though these women are in their 40s (with the exception of Samantha), I enjoyed the some of the slap-stick humor placed in certain scenes. I also enjoyed some scenes that referenced specific episodes.

The movie definitely did a good job at product placement-brand recognition. Of course we needed the usual dosage of brand recognition to make sure this movie was authentic and not a fakes like Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, Vera Wang, Dior, Dolce Gabbana, Chanel, and other walks of Premiere Designers. Extra brand recognition included Apple’s iPhone, Mercedes and its annual Mercedes-Benz sponsored Fashion week event, Bag Borrow or Steal, and other companies.

Overall, I was not disappointed!

The Fabulousness that is ‘Sex and The City’

Posted in Shopping & Fashion, Writing with tags , , on May 30, 2008 by citygirlmemoir

If you live outside New York, then like the rest of the people (excluding other earlier premiere openinginternationally), we had to wait one extra day for ‘Sex and The City’ premiere. Which was last night. At 12:01am. Unfortunately, I could not make it, but I am going to catch the movie today!

As Fashion-Goddess is my witness I shall make it today!!

I’m so excited about all the outfits the girls wear in the movie! And you will definitely hear about my review later!

Now what to wear? I’ve got my Jimmy Choo shoes on, but no outfit!

What is Sexy?

Posted in Disaster Relief, Environment, Shopping & Fashion, Writing with tags , , , , , on May 19, 2008 by citygirlmemoir

Well, I was going to post about my outing to Strut Fashion show this last Friday; however, I’m postponing my post about Strut, because I think this is more important than a Fashion show.

Disaster relief is needed for Myanmar, Burma and the Sichuan providence of China. Currently you can donate money to American Red Cross for Sichuan providence of China, so Red Cross can provide all the assistance to care for the residences.

As for Myanmar, Burma, the government finally gave access to UN leaders. What to do now is for readers, like you, to click here (UNHCR) and start donating to help the victims of Myanmar.

If you haven’t done your day of good deed then here’s your chance. Both disasters are in dire need of help. You can donate to one today and donate the other tomorrow. Which ever floats your boat as long as you contribute somehow, someway.

If you have information pertaining to other legitimate organizations to donate for these two causes, please feel free to post a comment about them.

Oh, yeah… if you missed where to go to donate click here for the American Red Cross and here for UNHCR.

Nordstroms Rewards Party!!

Posted in Environment, Shopping & Fashion with tags , , on May 6, 2008 by citygirlmemoir

It’s that time again! Nordstrom Rewards Night! The night of all nights when Nordstrom closes shop and reopens for card members to load them up with free booze, free food, free stuff, and 10x the rewards points! Hungry fashionistas (this includes your’s truly) everywhere scurry to the doors of Nordstroms with their “shopping partner” (i.e. significant other or spouse) waiting to spend, spend, spend a-whole lotta cash! By “spend a-whole lotta cash” I mean spending a-whole lotta significant other or spouse’s hard-earned cash. What do you think the free beer there is for?

And speaking of Nordstrom, according to the company’s press release in mid-March Nordstrom debuted its version of environmentally friendly shopping bags and boxes. Yes, and boxes. Who knew that they were not recyclable before? Nordstrom company’s paper shopping bags are now 100% recyclable; the recyclable gift boxes will debut a month before the Holidays. Besides from the (finally) recyclable shopping bags are the company’s posh looking reusable shopping totes, designed by Ruben Toledo (the bags are currently available in West Coast stores). These silvery fashionable totes can be compressed into a small rectangle case for easy storage and are offered in the Accessories department for your not-so-easy spending of $21.95. Yowza! Cute bag, though.

Happy Shopping!

L’Amore dans La Ville

Posted in Writing with tags on April 21, 2008 by citygirlmemoir

Le commencement de l’amour, la lune de miel, et l’engouement. Je ne veux jamais que cette sensation pour terminer…

Moi

“Quand il me prend dans ses bras
Il me parle tout bas
Je vois la vie en rose
Il me dit des mots d’amour
Des mots de tous les jours
Et ça me fait quelque chose
Il est entré dans mon coeur
Une part de bonheur
Dont je connais la cause
C’est lui pour moi, moi pour lui, dans la vie
Il me l’a dit, l’a juré, pour la vie
Et dès que je l’aperçois
Alors je sens en moi,
Mon coeur qui bat”

-Edith Piaf

I’m Here to Save the Human Race

Posted in Environment with tags , , , , on April 16, 2008 by citygirlmemoir

And most importantly, Earth.

A month ago, my blog acquaintance Spazoid sent me a link through MSN Messenger. It dealt with our impending doom – excessive consumption and very little resources for a planet that is projected to have 10 billion humans by 2050. It’s a topic that I’ve studied and presented to my fellow students in my Environmental Science class.

I think every one should be aware of this challenge we face. Hopefully, this little movie will help influence people to see the world in a more enlightened perspective. I’m not saying to give up on certain self indulgence immediately; I am saying we should try to do the best we can to be aware of the situation and do little things that can, potentially, help out.

Otherwise, we should prepare to invade and reap the benefits of Mars.

Please sit back, relax, and enjoy the film.
